Set into a hillside forest of spruce trees on Snow King Mountain and overlooking downtown Jackson and the National Elk Refuge, this 3-bedroom townhome lives up to its name, “The Nest.” Sit in front of the stone fireplace in the great room and all you can see are trees, the sky, and, in the distance, mountains. But, while The Nest feels remote and isolated, it is only a short trip from the home to the boutiques, galleries, and restaurants in downtown Jackson. If you want the feel of a mountain home in the woods, hiking and biking trails out the front door, and easy access to Jackson’s cowboy cosmopolitan charms, The Nest is the home for you.
The Nest’s star space is, without a doubt, the main level’s public area. An open expanse with vaulted ceilings, a wall of floor-to-ceiling windows, and a stacked stone fireplace, this space is home to the living and dining areas and a professional-grade kitchen. Here, you can settle into one of the two high wingback chairs in front of the fireplace and enjoy the views of the surrounding forest and valley, snuggle into overstuffed leather couches and watch a movie or read, enjoy a family dinner, cook a weekend brunch, or have friends over for après ski.
Also on this floor is the guest wing. Removed from any hubbub that might be happening in the public spaces, two guest suites, each with a queen-size bed, are at the back of the townhome. One suite has an oversize walk-in shower. The second has a combined shower/tub.
The Nest’s upper level is the primary suite. A bedroom with a king-size bed can overlook the dining and living areas on the floor below, or be made private by unfurling a series of pocket doors that create a de facto wall. The primary bedroom connects to a generous, custom walk-in closet and dressing area. This room, in turn, connects to the primary bathroom, where a deep soaking tub sits beneath a window looking out on the forest. (Don’t be surprised to look out from your bath to see a moose or black bear walking through the trees.) The primary bath also has a walk-in shower and a double vanity.
A sitting room adjacent to the master suite can be open to the bedroom, or be walled off (thanks to more hidden pocket doors) if someone wants to stay up late watching TV or reading. A cozy office space and reading area is on the upper level landing.
Because The Nest is built into a hillside, a deck off the back of the upper level is even with the forest. Doors from the landing and the sitting room open to this deck, which, when the weather permits, is a beautiful spot for morning coffee or evening cocktails.
The Nest’s lower level includes a two-car garage and, just inside the front door, a spacious mud/laundry room with ample storage space.
The small development of townhomes that The Nest is a part of was the first residential project in Wyoming to earn the U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED (Leadership in Energy Efficiency and Design) Certificate.
