On the edge of a quiet community park in East Jackson, Villa at May Park I gives you a taste of local life. East Jackson is a popular neighborhood with full-time residents seeking proximity to the amenities of downtown as well as direct access to Cache Creek trail network of over 40 miles of hiking, biking and cross-country ski trails.
With its diverse architecture and quaint back alleys, East Jackson is as close as we get to an urban area. The unique shops and restaurants of downtown—Persephone Bakery Café, Snake River Grill, Mountain Dandy, farmers’ market, more than 25 art galleries and design studios—are only a 20-minute walk, down quiet streets, from this light and airy three-bedroom home.
If you want both the amenities of town and easy access to this valley’s spectacular landscape, with the comforts of a well-designed, open, and contemporary living space, Villa at May Park I is the home for you.
May Park itself includes a seasonal stream, a community garden, the loveliest and largest lawn in all of Jackson, and a meandering, paved pathway. (In winter, the park’s pathway is groomed for Nordic skiing—technically making this home ski-in/ski-out.)
This home’s multi-level, open design with half-floors makes it fun for groups. Bedrooms don’t open directly onto its main public space, but are in proximity to it. Walking in the front door, a comfortable entryway with closets and drawers for storing shoes and coats greets you. Half-a-flight of stairs down takes you to two guest rooms, which share a bathroom and also a sitting area.
Half-a-flight of stairs up from the front door brings you to the master suite, which is flooded with morning and early afternoon light. Its bathroom has two pedestal sinks and a wet room with a tub and a walk-in shower. Lying in the king-size master bed, instead of framing a neighboring house, windows to the east look at Crystal Butte, which is in the Gros Ventre Wilderness. And yes, you can hike up this butte; it’s the most challenging in-town hike, steeply climbing 2,000 feet in about 1.5 miles. The trailhead is just on the other side of May Park.
Continuing up another half-flight of stairs, you’re in this home’s most spectacular space: an open kitchen/dining/living room overlooked by a media room/den loft. There are soaring ceilings, exposed beams, concrete floors, and expansive windows. The thoughtful and personal design elements like a set of built-in cabinets painted robin’s egg blue, a curved kitchen island, a fireplace tucked into a corner, plants, and a comfortable sofa and chairs give the space a modern yet cozy vibe.
There is a 6-seat dining table right up against a wall of windows facing Snow King Mountain, which was the valley’s first ski area. But we bet you’ll find yourself eating more often in the heart of the kitchen, at the intimate glass tabletop affixed to one end of the island. A gas grill is on an intimate, covered deck just off the kitchen. A larger wrap-around deck that has both east- and south-facing arms is near the fireplace. If you’re here in summer, this deck could be your go-to spot for meals. In winter, you can stand inside and look past this deck at people skiing on Snow King, which is only several blocks away.
The media room, which is elevated above the northern end of the kitchen/dining/living room has similar views. The views get better when you walk out onto the large deck off this space: On the deck, if you look north instead of east, you can just catch a glimpse of Teewinot, one of the main Teton peaks. This deck, which is made private by a copse of aspen trees planted in the side yard 25 feet below, also has a hot tub and views of the Tetons. Relax as you watch family and friends playing below in May Park, all while remaining hidden yourself.
